Amber Lynn Wilde was from Campbellsport, Wisconsin, where she finished Campbellsport High School in 1997, she was born on March 26, 1979.

Ambеr had complеtеd hеr associatе dеgrее and was pursuing hеr drеam of bеcoming a pеdiatrician. Shе movеd to a Grееn Bay apartmеnt aftеr transfеrring to thе Univеrsity of Wisconsin at Grееn Bay. But she vanished after living there for only three weeks.
Amber was expecting a baby in February 1999 and was 4.5 months when she disappeared. Her family supported her and promised to take care of the baby while she finished her studies. She told her aunt and godmother that the baby’s father was Matthew Schneider, who was engaged to another woman (Heidi) and wanted to keep his affair with Amber a secret.
The Day She Went Missing
Amber had a minor car accident near the campus on September 23, 1998. She told her dad Steve that she hit another car from behind and smashed her head on the windshield. She went to the University medical staff for her headache and they said she might have a concussion and needed someone to check on her. Her dad kept calling her during the day and night and talked to her for the last time at 7:16 pm on September 23rd, 1998 on her apartment phone.
The following day, on September 24, 1998, Amber did not attend her 1:00 pm class or her optometrist appointment, which was unlike her. Her dad tried to reach her several times and went to her apartment, fearing something was wrong.
He did not find Amber or her car there, so he contacted the police and reported her missing.
Investigation
After Amber vanished, the police questioned Matthew Schneider, who was supposed to be the father of Amber’s baby. Matthew denied having sex with Amber. He claimed he hardly knew her and that they only met and chatted at a restaurant twice. But the police found out that he and Amber had about 60 phone calls from the time they met until she disappeared. They also learned that Heidi, Matthew’s fiance, was aware of Amber and thought Amber was lying. Matthew stopped talking to the police in October of 1998.
The police searched for Amber from 1998 to 2007, but they found nothing.
Amber’s silver Subaru with four doors was discovered in the parking lot of the old 50-Yard Line Sports Bar and Roadstar Inn on Lombardi Access Road near Lambeau Field on Oct. 1, 1998. Witnesses told the FBI that they thought the car had been there since Sept. 28, 1998. It had 600 miles that no one could explain.
The trunk had Amber’s purse and cell phone. The key was still in the ignition. The driver’s seat was back, which was strange for someone like Amber who was only 5′5″ tall.
Without a body or any strong evidence against Matthew Schneider, Amber’s case was inactive until January 2013.
The police subpoenaed Matthew Schneider’s phone records in 2015 and made them public in 2016. The subpoena named Matthew Schneider as a suspect.
The FBI’s Behavioral Analysis Unit looked at Amber’s case in 2017. Green Bay Police said they got “very helpful” advice from the unit, but nothing new has happened since then. Now, detectives think they are almost done with the case – they just need “one little piece.”
